Summary of what happened:
In this version of Romeo and Juliet, the story takes place at a college. Rémi is a year younger than Juliette and he is in love with her, except he can not get her to notice him. He thinks that a girl like her could never be with a guy like him. He admires her from afar while she plays on her volleyball with her friends during break time. Soon after, it is time for classes and Rémi goes to his french class, where his favourite teacher tells the class about a new theatre club opening in the school and how they're doing the play "Romeo and Juliette." This play includes both Rémi and Juliette's classes. Naturally, Rémi volunteers for the club as soon as he realizes Juliette will be a part of it too.
Reflection:
This is the first week and already, I am on a good start. I have decided to read the chapter first, write down words or phrases I didn't understand, find their meanings, and then summarize what happened in order to portray the fact whether I was understanding the material or not. So far, I've only come across words that I have never seen before, so it is understandable that I would want to include that in my work. Words like "vivons," "lieu" and "empêche" can be incorporated into my everyday vocabulary during french. Vivons is can be another way to say habiter and a word like lieu can be used while talking about an experience at a certain place. Over the next few weeks, I will be continuing working on my goal with the book.

Summary of What Happened:
Chapter 2 begins with Rémi being super nervous about the first theatre club meeting that Juliette will also be attending; but when he arrives to the meeting, Juliette wasn't there yet. Madame Mizio starts the class and teaches the students basic acting techniques. Then a while later, Juliette rushes in late and explains that her bus caused her to be late and since she has arrived, Rémi is now really happy because he thought she wasn't going to show up. After a few acting exercises, Madame explains the story of Romeo and Juliet to the students from Juliette's grade since they hadn't learned the story yet. Nearing the end of the chapter, the teacher discusses the roles and who wants to play them. Since a lot of people volunteered, she holds auditions on Wednesday and encourages the students to try out for it.
Reflection:
This chapter was definitely on the same level of difficulty as the first one. I was able to understand what was going on, quite easily; but I did encounter some new words like the ones in the list. I did come across a new tense, but I didn't know which one it was. And so I searched it up and found out that it is a new future tense. I think this was a really helpful learning experience because it gave me a snapshot understanding of what it will be like to learn that new tense later on. An example is "viendra" which is future tense form of venir.

Summary of What Happened:
The chapter begins with the club doing auditions for the infamous balcony scene and Rémi and one of the girls, Zoé have to do it together except she couldn't act it out properly. In order for Rémi to audition, Madame Mizio chooses Juliette to audition with him. During the scene, the two acted so well that they connected easily. They even had a romantic moment after the scene ended. They impressed everyone in the club so both of them got the roles of Romeo and Juliet.
Reflection:
The third chapter of this book is definitely harder than the other chapters I've read before. It included more complex words I haven't heard of before. For example, désormais which means from now on. A word like that can be incorporated into my writing as a transition word or just a more complex way to enhance my writing. I also discovered a new way of saying écrire using the verb: inscribe. But I think it is more related to calligraphy or inscribing. Moreover, I think this chapter really enhance my french better than the other ones I've read so far.

- Vestiaire: Changing Room
- Voix: Voice
- Tenir: To hold
- Pari: Bet
- Bêtise: Stupidity
Summary of What Happened:
The chapter begins with Rémi being said about how some other guy called Romaine got the role of Romeo and not him. So then, during class Madame plans for the club to rehearse the scenes and try out the costumes. But when Juliette and Romaine rehearse one of the scenes, they end up holding hands which made Rémi really furious. Nearing the end of the chapter, he gets even more mad because Romaine was bragging about how he is going to have to hug Juliette too.
Reflection:
This chapter was really easy for me and I think it is because the previous one is super difficult to comprehend. Most of the words I came across were easy. The ones I didn't know are just simple words related to either describing something or someone. It wasn't challenging.

- Murs: Walls
- Échelle: Ladder
- Chevalier: Knight
- Baiser: Kiss
- L'aise: Pleasure
- Conseille: Advise
- Rossignol: Nightingale
- Perche: Pole
- Claque: Slap
Summary of What Happened:
During the rehearsals, Rémi feels extremely jealous of Romaine because of how close his character is to Juliette. He feels as if the lines Romeo is supposed to say represent how he feels about her. It becomes a bit unbearable for him so he talks to Madame Mizio and decides to quit acting in the play; but the teacher convinces him that he is a good actor and that he shouldn't quit for no apparent reason. So he decides to stay. Unfortunately, whilst Romaine was practicing the balcony scene with Juliette, he ended up falling of the ladder and breaking his leg. So now he can no longer play Romeo. This leaves the chapter with the question: who will play Romeo?
Reflection:
This chapter was a mix of easy and difficult because the story was just of the theatre club rehearsing the play and since I have read Romeo and Juliet in english, it was easy to understand what was going on in french because I could connect the two languages. The words that I didn't understand were related to the story of the play and unless, one day I am talking about a play that I watched in french, I don't see myself using much of this vocabulary.

- Plâtre: Plaster or Cast
- Déguiser: Disguise
- Annuler: Cancel
Summary of What Happened:
Everyone in the club is worried on who is going to play Romeo after Romaine's accident. No one wants to play it and everyone is becoming stressed for it. But Madame Mizio asks Rémi to do it except he makes up empty excuses that didn't work on the teacher or the class. So it is decided that Rémi will play Romeo and even Juliette offers to help practice with his role at the end of the chapter.
Reflection:
This chapter was super easy and I understood it completely. It was actually hard work to find vocabulary that I wasn't familiar with in this chapter. And the 4 words I did find, their definition turned out to be what I thought they were going to mean. Either the chapter was way too easy or, my french has gotten better because of my goals over the past few weeks.

The day finally comes when the theatre club has to perform the play. They quickly skim through it, but when Rémi and Juliette act out the tragic death scene, they feel a real connection on the stage. Madame Mizio comes in and asks them to take a bow in front of everyone since they all loved the play. Everyone was really happy for the reactions they received for the play and were also super proud. And as for Rémi and Juliette, they held hands on stage and have feelings for each other.
Reflection:
The final chapter! This chapter was a bit difficult but still easier than chapter 3. It was fairly easy to understand other than the words that I didn't know about. For example, these types of words can be used whenever I am trying to write a story in french and I need to add specific details. I think that is what I would like to do in French 12. I want to try to write a story using all the french I have learned so far because I love to write stories in english, so I want to know if I have the ability to do so in french as well.
